1: Harassment can be verbal or physical. Communication problems are the most important factor in sexual assault or verbal and written harassment. The issue of sexual harassment on social media is very important. People now reach each other more easily with this channel.
2: As you know, social media is a new concept and people are just encountering this situation. The legislator did not seek physical contact in order to commit the crime of sexual harassment, and deemed sexual harassment of the victim sufficient for the crime to occur.
3: Therefore, writing articles for sexual purposes, sending photographs or offers to people on the internet is sufficient for the crime of sexual harassment to occur. Even someone you don’t know on social media waving at you would be harassing. Any act that bothers you from someone you don’t know is a harassment. Photos posted on social media are considered harassment, even writing how are you, are you okay, is considered harassment.
4: To put it in full definition, anything that disturbs you visually or audibly against your will is harassment.
What should you do if you have been harassed?
5: What should a person who is harassed on social media do in this situation, what kind of path should he follow? If such situations can be documented, they gain value. When someone sends you a defective photo, a disturbing text, an emoji, a screenshot of that image or images and the sender’s profile photo should be taken.
6: After these are taken, they should go to the nearest prosecutor’s office and file a criminal complaint. Afterwards, the prosecutor will find the person who made the harassment by following the IP addresses of the computer, phone, that is, from where this incident occurred. After that person is found, his lawsuit will be filed. In the simple case of sexual harassment crime, the punishment of the perpetrator depends on the complaint of the victim, while the complaint requirement will not be sought for the investigation and prosecution to be initiated to punish the person who harassed via social media.
7: In other words, even if you withdraw your complaint, this trial will continue and the person who committed the crime will be sentenced from three months to two years, and if the crime is committed against children, it will be sentenced from six months to three years.
Attention to our children
8: Unfortunately, 30 percent of children between the ages of 7-12 in the world are abused. There has been a 400 percent increase in sexual assault, harassment and rape cases against children since 2008. Unfortunately, one of the reasons for this increase is that our children have easy access to social media tools.
9: The biggest handicap is the weakness of our communication with our children. The fact that the social media area is very free is another factor. I mean, children see what we see on social media; he tries to apply what he sees in his daily life. Due to the factors brought about by this situation, the age of starting male-female relationships decreased to 8.
